Simple Awareness Surely any form of accumulation, either of knowledge or experience, any form of ideal, any projection of the mind, any determined practice to shape the mind -what it should be and should not be -all this is obviously crippling the process of investigation and discovery. So I think our inquiry must be not for the solution of our immediate problems but rather to find out whether the mind, the conscious as well as the deep unconscious mind in which is stored all the tradition, the memories, the inheritance of racial knowledge, whether all of it can be put aside. I think it can be done only if the mind is capable of being aware without any sense of demand, without any pressure, just to be aware. I think it is one of the most difficult things to be so aware because we are caught in the immediate problem and in its immediate solution, and so our lives are very superficial. Though one may go to all the analysts, read all the books, acquire much knowledge, attend churches, pray, mediate, practice various disciplines; nevertheless, our lives are obviously very superficial because we do not know how to penetrate deeply. I think the understanding, the way of penetration, how to go very, very deeply, lies through awareness, just to be aware of our thoughts and feelings, without condemnation, without comparison, just to observe. You will see, if you will experiment, how extraordinarily difficult it is, because our whole training is to condemn, to approve, to compare.

The idea of going "very, very deeply" does not appeal to me. it is not simple enough, not natural enough, to appeal to me.
Just as the lion in the field, the cat in the house, and the lice in my hair are designed to condemn the poisonous, to approve the sweet and to compare the two, so I prefer to ape them rather than the hair-splitting pedagogue. There is no need to master what is extraordinarily difficult. no need to worry our heads about such things.

While I agree it is not necessary to go deeply into yourself, into the mind and penetrate past what society has conditioned it to believe and return to the simple, original empty mind, but if one chooses to do this in this life the result is to enter into a serenity, a peace that is beyond intellectual understanding, indescribable in words. As Jesus supposedly said; "be in the world, not of the world." It is my opinion that it is the same state one may enter upon death, when one totally surrenders to it and lets go of all the fear, condemnation, judgment, all duality and returns back to enter the state of one with The All. Liken to a child who enters in perfect innocence and then is psychologically conditioned by its society, develops an ego (false identity) which is necessary to a certain extant to "survive" in the jungle (world) and then as one ages it may begin to return back to the state in which it originated in, upon death entering the state of one with The All.
Krishnamurti describing it as extraordinary difficult is really a paradox, as it is more difficult to try and continue in ones state of self absorption (original sin nature=survival mind=separation) then to totally let go and return to ones original nature (unity=oneness=non-duality), the whole problem in transcending this false state of identity is the ego's fear of death, the I, me, and my which are only thoughts of body identity within the mind. Has no one asked; "Who am I?" One who does this, who drops its body identification and looks deeply within its thoughts soon realizes that it is not death it enters into, but the beginning of life, and that until the transcendence happens one was not living truly.
As always, this is only my experience described in words which are all abstractions of reality, a word pointing to factual reality or experience. Accepting what I or another says as though its your truth is called belief, and beliefs are a protection against ones own direct personal experience. Whether one chooses an arduous path or a simple one matters not, as all paths eventually lead back to the single source, the only question is how one chooses to feel as it walks the path.

The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences. When love and hate are both absent everything becomes clear and undisguised. Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart. If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinion for or against. The struggle of what one likes and what one dislikes is the disease of the mind. Hsin Hsin Ming-the Book of Nothing

Perfect happiness is being free from the need to be happy.
Perfect accomplishment is being free from the need to accomplish anything.
Perfect knowledge is being free from the need to know anything.
Perfect control is being free from the need to control anything.
Perfect perfection is being free from the need to be perfect.
Perfect freedom is being free from the need to be free.
Perfect enlightenment is being free from the need to be enlightened.

Awareness is the conscious mind recognizing the subconscious mind as the two are not divided or separate, but are in fact not two and are interdependent. The subconscious mind is the one that retains thought, is like a tape recorder and starts being conditioned at some point just after conception, in fact the cells that make up the body are always learning and changing to environmental stimuli so the cells that are united during conception are undergoing reaction to whatever the environment is at that present moment. The cells of the body are ALWAYS changing according to what YOUR believing, to YOUR thoughts, they adapt to what YOU THINK! This is of immense importance, and is a break through in science finally coming to understand the power of the mind OVER matter. By the way, genes do not determine your fate either, in fact over 90% of dis-ease is NOT related to your genes but to the environment your living in, your thoughts, beliefs and life style you choose to live. The conscious mind is the one always in the present moment, it can go and review the past within the subconscious memories but it is doing this now as now is all there ever is. It is the one that can project ideas into the future, it is the planner for the future but again, all of this is taking place now. YOU are thinking thoughts NOW, the thoughts YOU think generate how you presently feel. You don't feel sad because your thinking happy thoughts!
Because the subconscious mind holds within it our basic human instincts of survival, it is originally more powerful than the conscious mind and is the one we identify with the most, or until one grows in conscious awareness. In other words, the body is made up of over 50 trillion cells, each cell is innately created to continue, to reproduce and survive at any cost. Each cell is awareness, intention and purpose all for the preservation of life. Thus, original sin or man's original nature so to speak is one of survival, as nature had to originate this way in order for it to continue and eventuality evolve past this mindset once it established a community or a "civilized" society amongst its creations. If you look back through history you can see that this is in fact what has been happening albeit very slowly.
Humanity is ever moving towards a unified effort for the betterment of the whole. How does this happen, through conflict, through suffering, through war, famine, hardship, etc as separation eventually breeds unity as the conscious mind becomes aware of the subconscious minds limiting beliefs of separation that have it "stuck" in a survival mode or a belief in scarcity. As the 50 trillion cells that make up the body came together and recognized, it is better to work together than as 50 trillion separate parts, just as two live cheaper than one so unity is easier for everyone rather than separation. The cells that do not participate, or create disruption or dis-ease are overtaken and shut down by a perfectly created replication of itself. Simply replaced by one that works for the betterment of all. Then, the exact pattern that was needed to replicate the diseased cell is recorded within the cells so that in the future if the same dis-eased cell tries to disrupt the whole again it stands no chance of survival and little energy is spent on the cells trying to figure out the replication process or simply they don't always have to reinvent the wheel, they become AWARE and KNOW what is necessary for their survival, hence they are always growing and learning from environment.
So, humanity is at that point in its evolution, more and more humans are waking up to the subconscious mind that has been controlling it for hundreds of thousands of years and beginning to question the very limiting beliefs that have been holding it back from coming together as one whole. This self awareness, becoming aware that you (consciousness) hold all the power within to transform from the subconscious mind into your true nature or self, the conscious mind or to be enlightened, awake, illuminated etc. is occurring more and more as it is natural. As with fire, it starts from a single spark and eventually engulfs all in its path, so truth and awareness work the same way. Truth is at first denied, even fought with violent opposition and then upon realization it is accepted as self evident. Truth, awareness of self is starting to spread, to engulf the whole of humanity as it moves ever closer to its own destruction, its limits of suffering. The spark was set into motion thousand's of years ago by the likes of Buddha, Jesus, Lao Tzu and the many untold of enlightened beings who spoke the words of consciousness into existence.Their whole purpose was to make the world aware of who its always been, to awaken it out of its slumbering subconscious mind, its conditioned beliefs and its ignorant thoughts of separation. This is the purpose of meditation, of watching your thoughts as thought is of the subconscious mind and in doing this one sees that it is in fact not its thoughts but the thinker of them. Hence you hold all the power to change your life, to let go of the old (beliefs, thoughts) you were inundated with throughout your life and become a new creation in consciousness hence the meaning of salvation, to be saved from yourself and the only one who may do this is you, first as an individual then us as a whole. Is it not time to awaken from slumber? What do you want?

Makes one think... I'm just thinking, those 50 trillion cells in me know one hell of a lot more than "I" do... (what is this "I"? Is it perhaps just ONE of those 50 trillion "who" imagines he is the bees' knees?)... But those 50 trillion really know their jobs - they know how to do all the myriad processes of maintaining life and health - how to control the emotions (and thoughts!) for the good of the whole - in fact what do they not know? I think I can stop worrying about anything, and just leave the job of sorting everything out to them...

I think that "them" (the cells, molecules, quarks, atoms etc.) and "us" (the result of "them" working together) is the part the mind (whatever that is) has a hard time understanding.
What's ironic is that science (those who have opened their mind to the fact that matter is in reality no-thing, mostly empty space) is now seeing the relationship of the universe as one organic whole, not all separate parts "fighting" for survival as Darwinian "theory" had stated it.
The biggest problem these scientist are facing is getting this new understanding of the workings of that which sustains life, is in fact life itself, out to the public as there are those who will not accept the truth that they have been "believing" wrongly for all these years. Also this throws a huge wrench in current medical practices which rely heavily on the use of drugs to shut down the "result" instead of understanding the "cause" which they are beginning to see is our very thoughts or beliefs and the environment we're creating with them.
Simply, you don't have a headache because the body is low on aspirin. You don't have itchy eyes, throat and extra mucus and sneezing and coughing because the body is low on antihistamines, its doing this for a reason, its trying to tell the idiot running it that its environment is not in HARMONY with The Way it was created.
You may notice I am not for beliefs as I don't see how they are helpful but act as a hindrance to knowing or truth. If you know you don't know you are open to understanding, if you know you know then you have had direct experience, its that simple.
The power or force behind beliefs is what or who?
What is before beliefs?
What is when they are not!

Mindfulness is present time awareness. It takes place in the here and now. It is the observance of what is happening right now, in the present moment. It stays forever in the present, surging perpetually on the crest of the ongoing wave of passing time.
If you are remembering your second-grade teacher, that is memory. When you then become aware that you are remembering your second-grade teacher, that is mindfulness. If you then conceptualize the process and say to yourself, "Oh, I am remembering", that is thinking.
