Welcome to this forum. For the present, membership is by invitation only, my emphasis will be on quality rather than quantity. This forum is open to viewing by all, but posting is only possible for members.
I am looking for a range of views right across the spectrum of spiritual beliefs and attitudes, from atheism through deism and theism, whatever those may be.
However, you are also free to discuss any other matters you please, by starting your own topic and commenting on topics started by others.
You will see a board for you under "Members' Boards". Please start your topics there. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions on how this forum operates or on its policies and aims, please post them as Replies to this thread.
Suggestions of any sort are welcome.
Anyone wanting an invitation to join may email me at gurthbruins@gmail.com with reasons for request and some info about themselves.
Guidelines for Members:
Members have been chosen solely on considerations of behaviour as shown by them on other forums. The qualities needed for this forum are friendliness, consideration and understanding of the feelings of other members - nothing more.
In the unlikely case that members should disrupt the harmony on the forum with impolite behaviour, moderation will have to be exercised, leading to banning if necessary.
You can post as much or as little as you like, you get one star after joining and you never get more, there is no star-incentive to many posts so no incentive to span with pointless posts. But there is nothing against very short posts, if they express something.
I regard all members as of equal worth, there are no ranks except the necessary administrative ranks, and no karma points to measure virtue. No like buttons: if you like something, take the trouble to make a post saying so.
I may rearrange the order of members' boards from time to time according to activity and also according to topics: priority will be given to spiritual, health, philosophical, psychological issues (including literature such as fiction with high philosophical or spiritual content), political issues.
Regarding the unusual structure of this forum:
I think all topics are connected to one another without clear dividing lines, so classification of posts can become a headache. I am more interested in the members as people than in their topics. I want to please the members not the topics. I want to give each member his own space where he can organise things to his own liking. I'm working on extending these powers, such as the ability to create stickies and bump threads (jump them to the top) in their space.
I'll use polls to sound the wishes of members on issues such as optimum forum size, organisation of boards, etc.
I'd rather have a small forum of 200 to 250 members than one of 10 000, where posts get immediately buried and difficult to keep track of. On these large forums, joining is automated leading to indiscriminate selection of members, resulting in a society no more civilised than the world around us.
