Definition of ETERNITY
1: the quality or state of being eternal
2: infinite time <lasting throughout eternity>
3: the state after death : immortality
4: a seemingly endless or immeasurable time <an eternity of delays>
Definition of ETERNAL
1
a : having infinite duration : everlasting
b : of or relating to eternity
c : characterized by abiding fellowship with God <good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? — Mark 10:17(Revised Standard Version)>
2
a : continued without intermission : perpetual <an eternal flame>
b : seemingly endless <eternal delays>
3
: valid or existing at all times : timeless
Thus, eternal and eternity is always, to have no beginning nor end, it does not start or stop, IT IS. Hence, if one believes that they can spend eternity in hell or in heaven then they must already be eternal NOW, as you don't become eternal "after death" as there is no death in eternity.
In other words, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You're either eternal or your not. If you are eternal, then obviously you cannot spend eternity in hell unless you choose to, as, if you are eternal than who can govern you to what end? What's to fear from whom? Death? Punishment? From what/who but thyself? You cannot say eternity starts after death because this is self contradictory as that which is eternal cannot die. Know thyself! The question is; who exactly is this "you" that "you" identify with? Who/What is I AM?
It seems, perhaps, an easier question to answer may be; "what isn't I AM?"
Now, if one can BELIEVE that it is going to spend eternity in hell, what or who is stopping it from BELIEVING it is not? Is belief truth? Is your belief the only truth? Why?
It seems, perhaps, that one creates its own reality through its beliefs and then experiences this exact thought/belief as its own reality. Thus, if one simply drops one belief and sees its opposite, well, ones whole view of the world may be radically different.
Maybe all the saints, sages, yogis, mystics, shamans and self aware beings were really onto something. But then one would have to believe them, or look for oneself to really come to know. I wonder if this is what Jesus meant when he said; "Ask and it shall be known unto you, knock and it shall be opened, seek and you shall find." Seems like you can know whatever it is you're wanting to know, or He's a liar. You choose!
