1. The central role of thought in forming everyday psychological experience. YOU are the thinker of YOUR thoughts!
Explanation: We are the thinkers of our thoughts. Thinking is a voluntary function of consciousness, an ability we have as human beings. We are totally responsible for how we feel as we go through life as our thinking generates our feelings. The goal is not that you don't need to think, but to know you are the creator of how you feel in your life, to see that you yourself is the one with the ability to think and what you choose to think about will result in how you feel. If one is angry, depressed, sad, insecure, jealous, or in any fear based emotion there is only one cause...you as you are the one thinking and possibly even dwelling on these thoughts and all thought is of the past (memory) and is not in reality "happening" and has only the power over you that you give it. Its not that these experiences (memories=thoughts) your thinking didn't happen, but they're not "happening" in the physical, actual, present now only your thinking about them is, your seeing them inside your mind and letting them determine how you feel. Since thinking is a voluntary ability (like walking) then why are you choosing to think on these thoughts if they're making you feel bad? Stop volunteering and just allow your thoughts to come and go without identifying with them, simply watch, let go. This could be seen as acceptance, or letting go of the past which is still just acceptance but when you can see it within yourself and understand how your thinking effects your feelings, you become the master of your life or how you choose to feel through your life. Its simple to try, sit in silence and empty your mind as best you can, then after your calm and relaxed simply allow yourself to start thinking on all the things you need to do , bills to pay, kids to feed, old mistakes, past hurts or whatever enters your mind and observe how you feel, then stop thinking or allow the thoughts to gently pass by without grabbing on to them and the see how you get back to that calm state of feeling...proofs is in the taste of the pudding. The cure lies NOT outside its cause but within it, inside you.
2.Separate psychological realities.
Explanation: We all live in separate psychological realities as each human beings thought system is unique and shaped by their own personal interpretation of experiences of the past. It is virtually impossible for any two people to have an identical thought system. This is based on the persons past experiences that have conditioned their way of seeing life or their perceptions. It is where ones beliefs, ideas, concepts (all thoughts) are formed that are based on they're personal past experiences. It is their personal reality and not actual, factual reality but only that which is within their thoughts. This is why there are so many different beliefs, opinions, prejudices, assumptions and the like as everyone sees things a little differently based on what thoughts they were conditioned to accept AS the truth but in reality are all only "thoughts" and not reality. When one becomes "open minded" they begin to look at things "out of the box" and their own natural creativity is opened up and they begin to move out of conditioned thought (beliefs) and into truth (knowing=not knowing) and live moment to moment accepting and allowing actuality=reality to unfold as it will.
3.Levels of consciousness.
Explanation: A level of consciousness is the degree to which a human being is aware that it is using an ability to think to formulate experiences of life. The extent to which a person is conscious of his/her ability to utilize the function of thought is the extent to which that person will experience thought as a voluntary function and the extent to which that person will have a sense of responsibility for his/her ideas, feelings and behaviors. A level of consciousness is the degree of understanding of what thought systems are and how they work to shape personal perception, feeling and behavior. This is not saying that one is "above" another as in a hierarchy of power or more "gray matter" but in having the conscious understanding of its relationship of its ability to think and create perception of reality vs. accepting reality to just be what it is compared to what one "thinks" it should be. Its when we get caught up in our thinking how life "should be" that we create a false reality instead of simply accepting it as it is.
4. The role of feelings and emotions as indicators of levels of consciousness.
Explanation: Feelings are a directional guide to a person's state of mind and represent levels of conscious understanding. Simply; you don't have angry or negative feelings until you use your volition to think angry thoughts. Feelings are the result of thinking thoughts. Mood swings are an indication that one is in low level consciousness and acts as a warning sign to help the person notice where its thoughts are based or what they are choosing to think about.
These principles are explained in detail in the book called; Sanity, Insanity and Common Sense by Rick Suarez Ph.D., Roger C. Mills Ph.D and Darlene Stewart M.S. It is published no longer but is still available from Amazon as new or used and I highly, highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand how their mind works. If the world would read it, it would be a very different world in very short order. The original principles were founded by Sydney Banks, you can check his website out here: www.sydneybanks.org/
They were also taught by Richard Carlson Ph.D. in the books: You Can Be Happy No Matter What, Shortcut Through Therapy and You Can Feel Good Again which are all available wherever you buy books. These newly founded principles are radical and have the power to radically change your life.
